“Upstanding? You mean dishonest!” said Newton scornfully. Sophia froze. “Don’t think I know nothing just because I’m old and no longer on the front lines. The Gardner Group dug its own grave by doing business dishonestly!
Also, you don’t have to threaten me with Jasper. If he wants to marry a woman from the Gardner family, then I shall disown him! You guys can go ahead and date whoever you want. You don’t even have to come to my funeral when I die!” Newton ranted.
“Dad!” Javier sighed. Sophia was crying, but her gaze was icy. She was done being oppressed by Newton for more than twenty years! She wished he would die with regrets!
“Grandpa!” Jasper strode toward Newton and reached out to stroke his back, but Newton pushed him away. “You don’t have to put on an
act! You’re just like your father, who also gave his all to some bitch!” said Newton angrily.
“I won’t help the Gardner Group. I’ve made it clear long ago,” Jasper said calmly. Newton’s eyes lit up instantly, and he said, “Really?!”

but on one condition. You cannot harm the interests of the Beckett Group.
“Otherwise, wouldn’t you be going against your own saying about doing everything for the good of the Beckett family?”
Sophia was left speechless and flushed. What an imbecile! He had been such a coward when he was a kid that he wouldn’t make a sound even if in pain. Now that he was an adult, he had become a harsh and sharp–tongued person!
“Dad, although Lia is my fiancée, I am a very unbiased person. I never involve my private relationships in work–related matters. I hope that you will always put the company’s interests first as the chairman,” said Jasper. His tone was fully businesslike.
Newton’s expression darkened because Jasper was implying that he was being unreasonable. He had no choice but to bite the bullet and say, “It’s not all because of Sophia that I’m helping Gardner Group.
“I went to Yoarkley to attend a conference and discuss a major overseas project, but the other party called off the meeting at the last minute. In the end, I found out that it was because he was intercepted by the president of KS Group, Jonah Taylor.
“I have no idea what Jonah offered him, but he dropped his intentions of cooperating with our company. So many things happened, and everything had to do with the Taylor Group. They are obviously going against us. How could I let them win again and bully us?”

The Beckett Group and Taylor Group had been rivals for over a century. One of Taylor Group’s elders had even vowed never to let anyone from their family marry a Beckett. They had even fought in shopping malls before, and both parties were at a stalemate.
Jonah showed his animosity by thwarting the Beckett Group’s hotel project. He had even caused trouble abroad.
A thought struck Jasper, and he asked hurriedly, “Dad, did you say that you ran into Jonah in Yoarkley?”
“Yes.”
“Today?”
“Of course.”
