Paige had thought the Jewells would give her hell or something. While she could not speak for everyone else, Paige could feel the burning hatred from Ann.
Still, no one made things difficult for her.
It was an uneventful dinner.
Paige sighed in relief.
After dinner, she went back to her room.
Since Paige was not close to the Jewells, she found it unnecessary to talk to anyone, especially with the ongoing conflict between Liam’s family and Frank’s family.
In fact she did not even want to go to her room, as it was technically Chris‘ room. However, she had nowhere else to go.
It was nighttime. Knowing Chris, Paige believed he would disapprove of her going out at this hour.
Honestly speaking, she really wanted to go out.
Paige could use a breath of fresh air to clear her head. Everything was a blur to her since she went from being a maid of honor to a bride on her wedding day. She was just going along with whatever Chris wanted her to do like a mindless puppet.
She was relieved and relaxed that Chris had not returned to the room. She was afraid of Chris, and being alone with him only put her on edge.
Paige changed into her pajamas and got into bed. Then, she went on her phone to chat with her
best friends.
Her two best friends were Jessica Sunders and Casey Brun.
The three of them had been friends since elementary school and went to the same school through high school.
Paige and Casey went to the same college, while Jessica’s excellent grades earned her a spot at a -top university in Seadale, an hour away from their hometown of Hevensford.
Although they were apart, the trio had a group chat where they shared stories of their life, food, clothes, cosmetics, shoes, bags, celebrities, and gossip.
As Paige had not been in the mood for the past couple of days, she did not participate in the chat. Jessica and Casey had been blowing up the chat with messages, though.
Paige scrolled through the messages, which mostly teased her about her marriage to Chris. Her

As Paige’s best friends, Jessica and Casey knew about her family situation.
When Paige read about her best friends‘ assumption about her absence in the last two days, her face turned red. They thought Chris had left her too sore to get out of bed.
Paige wrote, [Stop it. I can get out of bed, no problem. Thank you very much.]
She defended herself.
Casey replied, [Oh, you can? I guess that’s all there is to Hevensford’s elite.]
Paige had no words.
Jessica jumped in. [Paige, did Chris defend your honor against your family?]
What was Paige supposed to say?
Casey texted, [That’s how it plays out in novels and soap operas. A poor girl, ignored by her family, suddenly marries a man of power. The man stands up for her and gets revenge on those who bullied the girl in the past.]
Paige wrote back, [Don’t confuse fiction with reality. Chris didn’t do anything like that. He’s an indifferent man. He married me to get revenge on my sister and my family.]
[Don’t worry. It might be for revenge now, but he will soon fall in love with you,] Jessica answered.
Paige: [How do you know?]
Jessica: (I saw it on TV. Didn’t you catch the prime–time soap opera about revenge?]
Paige: […That’s on TV.]
Jessica: [That’s where you’re wrong. Soap opera plots are based on real–life stories.]
Casey: [Have you done the deed with Chris?]
Paige was speechless.
Jessica commented, [Hehe. It happened, didn’t it? Was Chris obsessed with your young and beautiful body?]
Paige did not know what to say.
Casey wrote, [You have got nothing to worry about, Paige. Everything is unfolding like a romance. novel. Chris will fall in love with you in no time.]
Paige was lost for words.

Jessica replied, [Stop wasting your time with us. Go and take a nice, long shower. Get ready and
wait for Chris in bed.]
She was about to reply when the door opened. Paige quickly logged out of the group chat, worried
that Chris would see what Jessica and Casey had texted.
Chris walked into the bedroom. Paige acted calm and looked back at him before turning her attention back to her phone. She logged onto Twitter.
He looked at Paige lying in bed on her phone, and his brow raised.
The young girl loved to snuggle in bed.
Chris let her be and returned to work at the desk.
Paige pretended to look at her phone, but she kept an eye on Chris from the corner of her eye. She was glad he was busy with his work.
She felt helpless and anxious, wondering when the days of anxiety would be over.
Paige dozed off not long after scrolling on her phone. She had not had a good night’s sleep in days.
Chris turned over and looked at Paige, sleeping soundly with her head tilted to the side.
The young girl sure was optimistic and compliant.
She married him in her sister’s place without making so much as a fuss. She even did as he said without question.
He could not ask for a better person to marry.
Paige slept until the morning. Feeling a restriction around her waist, she looked over.
Chris was hugging her from behind, and something was sticking out against her bottom.
Now that she had gone through the passage rite to womanhood, Paige knew what it was. She
blushed and wiggled, trying to break free from his arms.
