In the dim light, Byron squinted his eyes.
Even before he could react, Cora, squatting in front of the gate, sensed something and looked up toward the car. She quickly covered the distance in a few steps and reached the car.
“Byron, Carter, good evening.”
She smiled at them, seemingly unaffected by the previous cold
treatment.
Carter didn’t respond and looked at Byron again, waiting for his final decision.
After a moment of contemplation, Byron said, “No need.”
With that, he pushed open the car door and got out.
Seeing Byron stepping out of the car, Cora followed suit.

“Aren’t you afraid of getting sick if you eat so much?”
Her words playfully accused Byron of being surrounded by
women.
