Chapter 10 An Astonishing Idea
Before I could answer, Oswald took a step forward and explained, “She’s in a bad mood.” Then he put his hands on my shoulders and tightened his grip. He gently said to me, “Don’t worry. The doctor said that it was nothing serious. Jocelyn can go home after observation.” “Go home?” Hearing this, I couldn’t control myself anymore. I got up, pushed Oswald away, and ran out of the ward, sobbing. Our family was like a delicate vase that was covered in cracks and might break at some point. Even Eleanor had come to show off in front of me. Eleanor followed me out. Jocelyn started crying again in the ward. “Cass, what’s wrong with you? Don’t scare Jocelyn.” Eleanor reached out and grabbed my arm. “Bear it even if you’re in a bad mood. You have to take care of Jocelyn.” “Bear it? How can I bear it?” I roared and glared at Eleanor, making her stunned. Realizing that I had lost control of myself, I tried to calm down, but I trembled uncontrollably, and my bottom lip quivered. “You can go back. We’re fine. You’re very busy. Don’t delay your business.” I walked away from Eleanor and wiped my tears as I returned to the ward. I pulled away Oswald, who was comforting Jocelyn, and sat next to her, tears rolling down my cheeks. Oswald stood still. He spoke softly, “Don’t worry, okay? You scared Jocelyn.” Eleanor came back after a long time. She stood there helplessly and opened and shut her mouth. The moment turned awkward. “Cassie, I’ll go back then. Don’t worry. Give me a call if you need me,” Eleanor said embarrassedly and then looked at Jocelyn. “Jocelyn, I have to go. When you get better, I will buy you something delicious.” I brushed away my tears and glanced at Oswald. “You haven’t seen Eleanor for a long time, have you? Walk her out.” Oswald narrowed his eyes and said, “Okay. Don’t cry.” At the door, Eleanor said, “Stop here. Go back to take care of Jocelyn. I’ll come again when I have time.” Then she left in her high heels. Oswald returned to me and asked softly, “What’s wrong with you?” “Don’t you know?” I looked at Oswald with red eyes. Jocelyn started to cry again. I immediately leaned over and kissed her cheek. “Good girl. Don’t be scared. There, there. I’m here.” I also cried. Of course, I’d always be with Jocelyn. But how about Oswald? If we got a divorce, Jocelyn would… I was surprised by this idea. The ward was noisy that afternoon. The principal and the teacher of the kindergarten, the boy’s parents, and Oswald’s parents came to see Jocelyn, giving me a headache. It didn’t become quiet until late at night. Jocelyn was asleep. I had to stay with her because the doctor said she couldn’t move her head too much. Oswald was on the phone in the hallway. I sat in a daze by the bed, looking at my sleeping daughter worriedly. Oswald could tell that I was depressed, so he accompanied me. He didn’t leave the hospital that night, and I didn’t let him go back. Oswald was over 1.8 meters tall. Watching him lying by the bed, I had mixed feelings. If it had been before, I would have let him go back to get some sleep. After all, he had to work. But now, I didn’t know why. I thought this was his responsibility, and he had to stay. I didn’t care whether he loved me, but he had to love his daughter. Three days later, the doctor finally allowed Jocelyn to leave the hospital. Back home, Oswald said that we should let Jocelyn rest at home for a few more days to avoid any further accidents. He only took a break and went to work in a hurry. As I watched Oswald walk out of the house, I began to fidget and think wildly. I became more sensitive. I wondered if he would throw himself at his lover after he got out of the door. He must have a lust for S**. After all, he had restrained himself when he stayed with me in the past few days. It was time to satisfy his desire. I suddenly felt that as long as he left, he would go to see Eleanor. Oswald lied calmly to me. When he was out of my sight, he could do whatever he wanted. Eleanor called me once these days and asked about Jocelyn’s condition. I calmly handled it. Whenever I thought that she and Oswald lied to me, I couldn’t help but shudder and sigh at their viciousness. I must confirm as soon as possible whether Eleanor was “Mrs. Price”. What should I do if she was? I thought about divorce for the first time. I gritted my teeth and told myself that I must let Oswald lose everything when we divorced!
