Chapter 11 An Unexpected Finding
Jocelyn was scared by the fall and became clingy. She stayed in my arms all day long, so I had to be with her, which made me anxious. Oswald was so shrewd that I couldn’t find fault with him. He went to work and came back on time as usual. I couldn’t find any clues from all the things he brought back. Sometimes I suspected that I had delusions. At noon, I finally put Jocelyn down and found that there were no fresh vegetables or fruits at home. Jocelyn was sleeping soundly, so I decided to hurry to the market. The market was very close, so I didn’t bother to change my clothes. I had to come back quickly. I was stunned when I came back. I couldn’t find my key. I pondered for a long time and patted my head in frustration. I must have forgotten to bring it when I came out. I casually called Oswald, and he answered the phone in a low voice. I told him why I called. He said, “I’m in a meeting. I can’t leave. You can call Lelia.” Oswald was in a meeting again? He always used this excuse. I had no choice but to call Lelia. It would be great if I could take back the key in her hands. The phone rang for a long time before Lelia picked it up. It was noisy because many people were talking on the other end of the phone. She asked in a crisp voice, “Cass, what’s wrong?” “I forgot to bring the key when I came out. Can you bring it to me?” “No, I can’t. I’m busy outside,” Lelia refused directly and said to the person next to her, “Hey… Wait a minute.” “Where are you? I’ll go to you,” I said. This was a good opportunity to take back the key. Before Lelia could answer, someone said to her, “Please come over and check the location of this closet…” The phone was hung up. Closet? What kind of closet? I was quite confused. What kind of closet was that? Lelia was spoiled at home and never did housework. Why did she have to check the cabinet? I complained inwardly, “Lelia may cause trouble again. She never does the right things but always asks for money.” With many vegetables in my hands, I leaned against the door, discouraged and helpless. I was worried that Jocelyn would be scared when she woke up and didn’t see me, so I put the vegetables at the door without hesitation, went downstairs, and wanted to go to the company to get the key. I could see whether Oswald had a meeting or not by the way. After I got into the taxi, I regretted it. How could I go to the company like this? I still wore a home dress, but I had no other choice. When I got off the taxi at the gate of the Glorious Building, I laughed at myself. I should have changed my clothes before I went out. It was embarrassing to come to such a place in a home dress. I hesitated for a while and called Oswald again. I hoped that he could bring the key to me, so that I wouldn’t make a fool of myself. But he didn’t answer the phone after a long time, so I had to walk in. I didn’t have much time. Jocelyn would be scared when she woke up and didn’t see me. Sure enough, as soon as I walked into the lobby, many people looked at me strangely, as if I were a monster. The young staff members here were snobbish. I quickly walked to the reception and wanted to go upstairs as soon as possible. There were quite a few visitors, and they were signing in. I spoke twice, but no one paid attention to me. I waited patiently for the receptionists to finish helping those people sign in before speaking again, “I’d like to see Oswald Price from Prosper Materials on the 10th floor.” I came straight to the point before they asked me. “Do you have an appointment?” someone asked coldly as a matter of routine. It was the one who said that Oswald went out with Mrs. Price. I was about to reply when she suddenly smiled brightly. She looked obsequiously behind me and said, “Here you are, Mrs. Price.” I was shocked. Mrs. Price? I looked back abruptly…
