Chapter 13 Dubious Keys
In the elevator, neither of us spoke. Lelia leaned against the elevator with her head lowered and her mouth pouted. I didn’t want to talk to her. Her brother spoiled her, but I didn’t. I arrived at Oswald’s office and found that he was really in a meeting. His subordinate asked him out. He was a bit surprised to see Lelia and me come together and looked us up and down. He stared at me and asked, “Why are you…” “Am I embarrassing you? I don’t need to dress myself up when I go to the vegetable market.” I interrupted Oswald. Of course, I knew what he was going to say, so I talked back angrily. “Give me the key. Jocelyn is still asleep.” Oswald strode back to his desk, picked up his bag, took out a bunch of keys, and handed them to me. “Didn’t I ask you to call Lelia?” I took the keys and glanced at Lelia, who looked displeased. “She’s busy. It’s more important to come here and pretend to be your wife. “Have a good talk with her. I can’t get her to help me.” I didn’t want to be nice to Lelia. “Your brother loves you so much that he even gives you the title of Mrs. Price!” After finishing my words, I turned around with a cold face and strode out. I didn’t have time to talk to them. It would be terrible if Jocelyn woke up. I walked out of the building angrily with the keys and took a taxi home. When I was about to open the door, I saw two new keys. I checked them and wondered what they were. I found the key to the house, opened the door, and rushed anxiously to the bedroom. Seeing that Jocelyn was still asleep, I breathed a sigh of relief and sat in front of the bed. I couldn’t help checking the heavy keys in my hand. Somehow, the two new keys made me nervous. There were keys to this house, the place of Oswald’s mother, and his office, but I didn’t know what the two new keys were. With the keys in my hand, I glanced at Jocelyn, who was still asleep, and quickly went out again. There were several shops where keys could be copied at the east end of the market. I went to the smallest one and asked the boss to copy two for me. Then I hurried home. Jocelyn helped me a lot today. She had been sleeping soundly. However, shortly after I arrived home, Oswald came back. My heart raced inexplicably. “Why did you come back so early?” I asked. “I was worried that Jocelyn would cry when she woke up, so I came back to see her.” Oswald walked past me into the bedroom and took a look at Jocelyn. “Did she ever wake up?” Jocelyn heard Oswald’s voice, so she opened her eyes, arched her back, turned over, and said in a sweet voice, “Dad.” Oswald walked over with a bright smile and leaned over to look at Jocelyn. “Baby, are you awake?” “Dad, I’d like some ice cream.” Jocelyn stuck out her tongue and licked her lips, blinking expectantly. “Okay. Let’s play for a while, and then I will take you and your mom out for dinner and ice cream, okay?” Oswald pinched Jocelyn’s nose. Jocelyn got up, crawled into his arms, and threw her arms around his neck. “You are the best.” I brought some water and fed Jocelyn. She was thirsty. Oswald took Jocelyn to the living room. He glanced at the cabinet by the door and felt relieved when he saw the keys. Without saying anything, I entered the kitchen and took out a pitaya. After cutting it, I scooped out the flesh and was about to bring it to Jocelyn. I accidentally looked at the cabinet, but the keys were no longer there. My heart sank, and my hands trembled. As pitaya fell from the plate onto the table, Oswald looked at me in surprise.
