Chapter 14 Spoiled
“How are you?” Oswald was quite considerate. He raised his head to ask me, “Are you too tired? I won’t leave then. I will stay with Jocelyn for a while.” I tried hard to restrain my emotions. I nodded. “Yes, I’m tired. Then you stay with her. I will take a nap.” After that, I put the fruit tray on the coffee table. “Feed her some. And there are still some left in the kitchen.” “Okay. Just sleep. Let’s go out to eat when you wake up,” Oswald said as he began to feed Jocelyn fruit. I turned around and went to the bedroom. I almost couldn’t breathe. Tears fell out of my eyes. It seemed that there must be something wrong with those two keys, so he rushed back to take the keys back. He wasn’t worried that Jocelyn would wake up! Men always became bastards after they cheated on their wives. I couldn’t help but think of Eleanor. She had been quite successful in these two years. She no longer shared an apartment with others. Now, she rented a big one alone. But she never told me where her apartment was, not to mention inviting me over for a visit. It seemed that she needed the apartment to hook up with men. The more I thought about it, the angrier I became. It was really hard to know a person’s true color just by his or her looks. I felt disgusted by what I thought of how I was fooled. No wonder she told me that I was tricked by Oswald. She was simply provoking me. Even if she wasn’t Oswald’s mistress, she must have done other disgusting things. If she never did anything, why did she lie? Damn Lelia! Why did she cause trouble at this point of time? She unconsciously made things complicated. There must be a problem since Oswald and Eleanor lied together that day. They must have some secrets between them. It could be seen that Oswald must have been on guard with me a long time ago. No wonder I couldn’t sense anything wrong with him. What did he become like this? How could he see me as a thief? Thinking of this, I gripped the sheet tightly. I felt like there was a huge stone on my chest, making me feel a great pain. Outside, Oswald and Jocelyn were having a good time. But inside the bedroom, I was heartbroken. I had to make some preparations for myself. At night, Oswald insisted on bringing us out to eat. I didn’t object. Jocelyn used one hand to hold my hand and used the other hand to hold Oswald’s hand. The scene was warm and peaceful. We looked like a happy and harmonious family of three. I smiled with sarcasm. Oswald was so good at acting. He should work as an actor. We got in the car. Before we set off, we saw Lelia come to the neighborhood with a bag. Seeing that we were about to go out, she looked at Oswald and asked, “Where are you going?” Before Oswald answered, Jocelyn shouted excitedly, “Auntie Lelia, Daddy is going to take us out to eat in a restaurant!” Lelia pulled the car door open and went in to sit in the passenger’s seat without saying anything. Her arrogant look made me unhappy. When did she get the habit of eating in our home? Oswald started the car and drove it out of the neighborhood. He also remained silent. I also didn’t say anything. I hated seeing Oswald like this. No matter what Lelia did, he would turn a blind eye. I thought he didn’t blame Lelia for what had happened in the Glorious Building today. Otherwise, she wouldn’t be so bold to follow us. I really didn’t know what to say to Lelia’s parents. They never asked what their daughter did all day. Oswald chose a relatively famous restaurant called Harmony Restaurant. It was time to have meals at this time. Oswald let us get out of the car first while he went to look for a place to park the car. We seldom went out to eat, so Jocelyn was excited. She kept chattering. Lelia shouted out aloud impatiently, “What are you doing? Stop making noises! We are out to eat.” Her words totally annoyed me. I couldn’t bear it anymore. “Why should she stop? How old is she, and how old are you? You are her aunt, okay?” “She’s really spoiled by you!” Lelia retorted me with disdain. She muttered, “She appears that she has never seen anything!” “What are you talking about? Who spoiled you then? You have seen quite a lot. That’s right. But why can you see so many things?” I held Jocelyn in my arms and looked at Lelia with anger. “She’s just a kid! Be more tolerant of her, okay?” Oswald had parked the car. Seeing me scold Lelia, he patted my back and took Jocelyn from me. “Don’t quarrel. Be quiet.” “Auntie Lelia is bad.” Jocelyn felt that she got a backer when seeing her father come over. She complained to her father about Lelia. Lelia glanced at her brother and put away her impatience. She said with a smile, “Kid, why am I bad?” I hated Lelia when she was like this the most. She was obedient when faced with her brother, but as long as her brother left, she changed. I dodged Oswald’s hand, which was reaching out to take Jocelyn from me, and turned around to go into the restaurant. “I…” “Shut up! Be content with what you have, okay?” Oswald’s voice was low, but I heard him clearly. It was rare for Oswald to scold his sister like this. I finally felt better. He should have treated Lelia in a tougher way so that she could restrain her arrogance. Upon entering the hall, I unexpectedly met Orlando.
