Chapter 21 Eleanor’s Key
After walking around, I felt a bit disappointed. Eleanor’s house didn’t even have a pair of men’s slippers.
I started to have some doubts. Did Eleanor clean up in advance? Otherwise, why did it take her two hours to come pick us up? I thought two hours were enough for her to hide everything.
It seemed like Eleanor planned everything carefully.
Maybe Eleanor noticed that I was distracted. She took out a lot of fashionable snacks for Jocelyn, turned on the big TV, played cartoons for her, and then sat down next to me. She stared at me intently. It made me feel uncomfortable.
Eleanor reached out and put her hand on top of mine before patting the back of my hand. “Tell me,” she said.
I panicked a little and looked at Eleanor. Then I pulled my hand away and said with caution, “Tell you what?”
“Tell me what’s on your mind,” Eleanor said gently, as if she was inducing me.
I sneered secretly and looked at her. My tone became cold. “What’s on my mind? What are you referring to?”
Eleanor’s mouth twitched, and then she stood up. “Play with Jocelyn. I’ll make something delicious for you.”
After she finished speaking, she took off her coat, got changed, and went into the kitchen.
I sat absentmindedly with my daughter and looked at the big screen. I was

Suddenly, Eleanor’s phone rang. I immediately perked up my ears, feeling sensitive that it might be Oswald calling.
I stood up and sat on the sofa closest to the kitchen. I heard Eleanor speaking on the phone with a gentle voice, completely different from how she was with me. But I couldn’t hear what she was saying clearly.
It made me feel uneasy.
I stood up and went straight to the kitchen. But as soon as I approached, I saw Eleanor hang up the phone and put it in her apron.
She looked surprised and said, “Go play with Jocelyn! Today, you’re my boss. I’ll take care of everything food–related!”
I smiled, but I didn’t leave. Instead, I leaned against the kitchen doorway and asked, “Did you buy this house yourself?”
“I don’t have that much money. My company at me.
gave it to me!” She smiled
“Your company is really good. Few companies nowadays provide accommodation for their employees!” I hinted, wondering if Oswald had rented the house for Eleanor.
Somehow, I suddenly had a bad feeling. I wanted to check the savings card that Oswald and I owned.
“Those artists benefit me!” Eleanor said while cleaning crabs. “Several artists from our company live in this neighborhood. The security and management here are good. There won’t be any unwanted disturbances. As you know, artists‘ privacy is important.”
“Privacy is important for regular people too! Those mistresses also fear exposure!” I retorted without reservation.

“You’re right. There are such people here as well!” Eleanor responded calmly. “But sometimes, it’s not necessarily the mistresses who suffer in the spotlight. It depends on their individual strength.”
Strength?
I snorted coldly and thought how brazen mistresses had become. Eleanor even dared to openly provoke me. I did not know how to argue back, nor did I want to. I turned and left the kitchen. Then I cast a glance at the shoe cabinet by the entrance. The bag with the keys was right there.
I walked towards my bag, took the keys from the compartment, and looked at the kitchen door. I could hear the busy sounds from inside. I stood up, pretending to be nonchalant, and walked towards the door.
I turned back to look at the kitchen and reached out to grab Eleanor’s bag. I quickly found the bunch of keys and started searching for the one Eleanor used to open the door.
I didn’t know if it was because I was nervous or afraid of knowing the final result. My hands trembled uncontrollably. Side by side, I put the two keys together for comparison. I couldn’t believe what I saw, and a strange feeling started creeping up on me. I slowly turned around.
