Chapter 25 Go to Saltdol City
I dialed the number, but a mechanical voice told me that the phone was turned off.
I squatted down, on the verge of tears. However, when I thought about my ill daughter, I gritted my teeth and forced myself to stand up. I took out my card and turned around before running back with weak legs.
I returned to the lobby and dialed Eleanor’s phone again, but it was also turned off.
I was so anxious that I spun around in confusion, wondering why all the phones were turned off. Helpless, I called the Price family. It was already past 1 o’clock in the early morning, and I was afraid of alarming my parents–in–law.
Sure enough, after the call was connected, my mother–in–law’s voice sounded panicked. “Cass, what’s going on? It’s so late. Is there anything wrong?”
Hearing Dinah Riley’s question, I felt at a loss for words. Apologetically, I said that Jocelyn had a high fever in the hospital, and I had no money.
Dinah quickly hung up the phone and told me they would come to the hospital right away.
When they arrived, the doctor had already put Jocelyn on a drip. She had acute pneumonia.
My parents–in–law rushed over in the middle of the night, and I felt a bit guilty. “Why did you come? You could have had Lelia bring the money to me. It’s so late!”
“She said she went to Saltdol City with her brother for some business!

She’s not at home!” Dinah answered and then went straight to Jocelyn’s bedside. “How did it get so serious? How high is the fever?”
“It’s 39.5 degrees, Jocelyn has acute pneumonia. Please watch over her. I’ll go pay the medical fees,” I said to my parents–in–law.
I hurriedly went out, but I couldn’t help but complain in my heart. Lelia was completely useless. She went with Oswald to handle something, but what could she do? It would be good if she didn’t cause trouble.
After everything was settled, I let my parents–in–law go back. Dinah didn’t refuse and said that she would bring us some food later.
They left, and I watched my daughter gradually regain her normal color. Finally, I was relieved, but the money on the card was gone. I felt uneasy, with various possibilities flooding my mind and leaving me uncertain.
Fortunately, Eleanor turned on his phone quite early. She called me before 5 o’clock. “Cass, what’s going on? Why did you call me in the middle of the night? My phone ran out of battery last night, and I forgot to charge it!”
“Jocelyn had acute pneumonia in the middle of the night. I took her to the hospital, but I didn’t have any money!” As soon as I spoke, tears streamed down my face.
“Damn it. Which hospital? Wait for me!” Eleanor asked urgently.
“Central Hospital!” I sniffled.
Within half an hour, Eleanor found us. She reached out and touched Jocelyn’s forehead. “How is she?”
I answered, “The fever went down!”
“Why are you crying?” Eleanor stared at me.
I wiped my eyes and told Eleanor straightforwardly that there was no

Eleanor narrowed her eyes in disbelief. She looked at me and said what I had expected.
She cursed angrily, “Damn it! It seems we are too late!”
With Eleanor’s agreement, I helplessly covered my face and suppressed my crying. I didn’t want to startle Jocelyn, for she was young. I didn’t want her to know that our family was facing a crisis.
Eleanor reached out and laid her hands on my trembling shoulders, giving me strength in silence.
After a while, I abruptly raised my head, clenched my fists, and looked at Eleanor with bloodshot eyes. I hoarsely shouted, “I want to ask him what the hell he is up to. That’s nearly ten years of our savings. It’s for Jocelyn! This time, I must get an answer!”
Eleanor shook her head. “It’s not the right time yet!”
“But I can’t just sit here and watch him do whatever he wants! That’s the security for Jocelyn and me. Eleanor, you understand it! Do you know? When we deposited this card, Oswald entrusted it to me in order to make me feel secure about holding the money, and even set up Line reminders. But as you can see, the money has been transferred out. When did it happen? I haven’t received any notifications. What does this mean?”
Eleanor had no response. She could only comfort me.
Just then, my phone buzzed with a vibration. I grabbed the phone and saw that it was Oswald’s call. Furious, I was about to answer.
But Eleanor quickly reached out and snatched the phone from my hand.
“Give it to me!” I shouted angrily.
Eleanor looked at me, put both hands on my shoulders, looked into my
