Chapter 27 Marks of Pinching
I smiled sarcastically and couldn’t imagine what good news I could have.
We were pressed for time. Eleanor didn’t mention it, and I didn’t ask. We agreed to meet tomorrow.
When I returned to the Price’s place, everyone was waiting for me to come back for dinner. For the first time, Lelia was there too.
Upon seeing me, my mother–in–law, Dinah, immediately started serving the dishes. “Dinner’s ready! Cass hasn’t come back for dinner for a long time!”
I laughed and quickly washed my hands. The atmosphere in the family was harmonious.
During dinner, my father–in-law, Steward Price, asked Oswald about the project in Saltdol City. Oswald casually responded, and Dinah unintentionally mentioned Lelia. “What did you do with your brother?”
As soon as Dinah said that, Lelia visibly froze. She glanced at Oswald, and Oswald immediately asked, “Did you also go to Saltdol City?”
Lelia hesitated for a moment, seemingly unable to react. Then she suddenly said, “Ah, I was with my friends.”
“But why did you say you went with your brother?” Dinah persistently asked.
Lelia replied with irritation, “If I said I wanted to go to Saltdol City, would you let me go? You always keep an eye on me.”
After hearing their conversation, I had a strange feeling, but I couldn’t express it. Suddenly, I felt like I might not be as important as Lelia was in

Oswald’s eyes.
Indeed, among the few people in this family, I was the outsider.

Every time we ate together, there were only a few topics, mainly urging Lelia to find a boyfriend as soon as possible. I silently took care of Jocelyn and didn’t participate in their conversations.
After dinner, Lelia dressed up and was about to go out. Oswald quickly asked, “Where are you going? It’s so late.”
“It’s none of your business! You have a wife and child. Cannot I go out for some fresh air or find a boyfriend?” She replied angrily, put on her shoes, and left. Oswald shouted, “Come back early!”
I glanced at Oswald and silently criticized him. He worried too much.
At night, when I was bathing Jocelyn, I noticed two bruises on the inside of her thigh. Jocelyn’s skin was tender, and it was slightly red around the bruises, indicating they were new.
I asked Jocelyn, “Tell Mom. How did you get these bruises?”
Jocelyn avoided me and didn’t let me touch her. With watery eyes, she looked at me without saying a word.
“Tell Mom.” I coaxed Jocelyn. She burst into tears and said, “Aunt said that you got lost and wouldn’t come back, so I called her a bad auntie. I argued you would never get lost. She pinched me! Dad told me not to tell you.”
Jocelyn narrated what happened in detail. I got angry and shouted, “Oswald!”
Oswald rushed into the bathroom. I picked up the crying Jocelyn and showed him the bruises on her leg. “Open your eyes wide and see clearly. Don’t tell me you didn’t know! Oswald, Lelia is outrageous. You lied, and you even taught Jocelyn to lie.”

Oswald looked at the bruises guiltily and reached out to take Jocelyn. “I’ve already scolded Lelia. Don’t be angry! I told Jocelyn not to say anything because I was afraid you’d get angry!”
“Is this about me getting angry or not? Oswald, let me ask you. Is Lelia more important to you than your daughter? How can you care so much about her? Is she closer to you than your own daughter? Fortunately, I’ve found it out. What if I didn’t? How have I wronged Lelia? How can she treat a child like this?
Apropos of hitting!” I shouted, feeling the urge to tear this Lelia apart. She was truly unbearable.
“Alright, don’t scare Jocelyn. I did scold Lelia, and you can’t expect me to pinch her too, right?” Oswald looked displeased.
was stuck in his question. We remained silent for a while before I replied, “Oswald, you have disappointed me!”
I wrapped Jocelyn in a towel and carried her out.
I didn’t want to argue with Oswald anymore. I had nothing to say to him because he didn’t care about me and our daughter.
The next day, after reporting to the company, I left immediately to find Eleanor.
There was another person with her, which was the good news she told me. This person was a professional and reliable private investigator who could obtain evidence quickly and professionally.
But I knew that the closer I got to the truth, the farther I would be from my family. Was there a way back for me?
