Chapter 8 Eleanor?
The next morning, I struggled to wake up with dark circles beneath my eyes. Oswald was surprised to see my haggard face. “Cass, you don’t look well. Do you feel uncomfortable?” “Don’t you know I was sleepless because of you last night?” I said curtly. Oswald was stunned for a moment and then hugged me with a wicked smile. “I won’t drink afterward. Let’s do some exercise to help you sleep!” I didn’t know why, but as soon as I heard what he said, I had a churning stomach. I rushed into the bathroom to vomit violently, with tears streaming down my face. Oswald nervously patted my back. “What’s the matter with you? I’ll take you to the hospital.” I pushed him aside and concealed my emotions. “I’m fine. I didn’t sleep well. Drive Jocelyn to kindergarten by the way. I’ll go back to sleep.” Oswald picked me up, put me on the bed, and pulled over the blanket to cover me. “Get some sleep. I’ll drive Jocelyn to kindergarten. Don’t worry. Call me if you feel uncomfortable, okay?” I nodded. Oswald and Jocelyn closed the door and left while talking. I immediately got up and ran to the window. Watching Oswald lead the bouncing Jocelyn into the car and drive out of the community gate, I couldn’t help but choke with sobs. I wished everything could be as before. I turned around and quickly dressed myself. Different from my usual dressing style, I put on jeans and a T-shirt, put my hair into a ponytail and wore a hat. Then I went to the coffee shop opposite the Glorious Building and took the best seat, watching the entrance of the building. I knew this was the dumbest method, but it might be the most effective. However, I found nothing for three consecutive days. I didn’t even see Oswald because I forgot that he usually went in and out of the underground garage, where there was a direct passage to the lobby of the building. On the fourth day, when I wondered what I should do, I saw Oswald come out of the building in a panic and walk to the square while talking on the phone. My heart tightened. I got up immediately and left the coffee shop, following Oswald from afar anxiously. It was not yet time for lunch break, and Oswald didn’t drive, which meant that he wouldn’t go far. Oswald crossed the road at the intersection ahead and walked into a fancy coffee shop. It was a good place for elites in the nearby business district to rest and talk about things. It seemed that Oswald came to see someone. I glanced at the bright and clean floor-to-ceiling window and wondered whether to follow him in. Unexpectedly, I saw a familiar figure sitting by the last window on the second floor. It was Eleanor, who was always very busy. She wore a fine rose-pink professional suit, looking quite beautiful. I chuckled at the coincidence. I didn’t expect to see Eleanor there. I thought I could ask her to see whom Oswald was with, so I took out my phone and called her without hesitation. As soon as I got through, I saw Eleanor pick up her phone and check it, but surprisingly, Oswald appeared by the window… Eleanor pointed to the seat across from her and made a hush gesture to Oswald. Then she said to me on the phone, “Do you have nothing to do again?” Her question got on my nerves. In the past, I would regard it as a joke between best friends and talk back immediately. But now, I thought she was mocking me, which made me sadder than seeing her with Oswald. I felt like I was slapped by her, with a burning sensation in my face. I smiled and asked, “Where are you?” “I’m in a meeting at the company. I’ll call you back later.” I saw that Eleanor’s eyes were fixed on Oswald’s handsome face. Eleanor’s answer left me stunned. I didn’t expect that Oswald would be with Eleanor.
